Haitian Aid

We have all faced our share of troubles and difficulties, but in January 2010 many of our trials paled in comparison to the massive disaster that hit Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere.  The plight of the Haitian people has captured the attention of the world.

In 2008, after being struck by three successive hurricanes, Haiti was hit by Ike, the fourth hurricane in 30 days.  Ike turned Haiti into a wet wasteland.  Hillsides became sludge and mud slides wiped out countless homes.

And now, barely sixteen months later, a disaster to top all disasters has engulfed the tiny Island nation.  A massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck Haiti with the epicenter near the capital of Port-au-Prince.  The news media estimates of the death toll keep rising.  I wonder if we will ever know the real number who have lost their lives.

We cannot remain at the place of destruction.  We must help these brave people to courageously get up again, in spite of their huge losses, and in hope believe for the dawning of a better day as we, who are moved by their plight, do what we can to help them arise and build.   We hope and pray that because of the flood of attention and assistance from around the world, many lives will be rescued and spared in the months ahead.  Together we can make a difference.
